Your vision is such an important component of your everyday life. Trumansburg Optical, a family-owned full service practice, offers everything that you need to keep your eyes as healthy as possible for as long as possible. From glasses and contacts to emergencies and comprehensive exams, our team is here to serve you and ensure that you can see as clearly as possible with the healthiest eyes. Your eyes can be a window into other health concerns, so we will discuss what you may be experiencing along with your eyesight.
Having a regularly scheduled eye exam can help determine not only your most current prescription, but also any signs of health issues. Our doctor will look at your eyes separately and together and see how you perform in both close and far distance vision tests. Beyond determining your prescription, our doctor will also utilize the top technology and equipment to see if there are any signs of health issues, such as cataracts or glaucoma. It may be determined that dilating eye drops are needed. If so, a second driver is recommended as the drops can affect your ability to drive.
While an annual exam is a good rule of thumb, if you are an adult or young adult who does not wear contacts or glasses, you can go every two years. Once you reach the age of 45, seeing your eye doctor annually is recommended, which is also the ideal timeline for school-age children. Before kids enter school, they should be checked around age 1, 3 and 5.
You will find a range of frames available for you to choose from when you need new glasses. We also have different options for your lenses. We work in specialized areas, such as bifocal, trifocal, progressive and anti-reflective coating. Transition lenses can be your transition into prescription eyeglasses too, which we also can make for you. No matter what type of glasses you want, since we complete our lens edging in-house, your wait time for the new pair will be shorter. We also have cleaning agents and microfiber cloths to purchase, so you are ready to go when you walk out the door.
If you prefer contacts or want them in addition to glasses, our team can help with this as well. We can discuss your lifestyle, and also based on your prescription, recommend what type of lenses are best for you. There are options that are changed monthly, daily or bi-weekly. We are happy to go over details of how to wear your contacts in safe and healthy ways for those who are new to lenses.
