We Focus on All Types of Eye Exams

Step One in any consistent eye health routine is your eye exam. Even if you do not have any noticeable issues or wear glasses or contacts, having your eyes checked out by a doctor is a key component of staying healthy. A wellness check is just as important for your eyes as it is for the rest of you! Our Dr. Henninger has extensive experience in all types of eye exams and can even assist in an emergency situation.

The Basics

First and foremost, who needs a yearly eye exam? We recommend anyone over the age of 45 have their eyes checked every year as we could find signs of other health problems that can occur as we age. We also need to see you every year if you wear glasses or contacts to ensure that you have the most up-to-date prescription. Children in school should also have their eyes examined every year to make sure they can see in school and do their best!

If you do not wear glasses or contacts, you could schedule your eye exams every two years. We also want to see your children at 1 year old, 3 and 5.

What to Expect

Our doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam that checks your vision and looks at the overall health of your eyes. He will look at how your eyes function together and separately. We also have the advanced medical equipment and imaging on site to perform a thorough health assessment to watch for cataracts and glaucoma.

You may need dilating eye drops, which will cause issues for driving and may be uncomfortable for children. We will determine if this is necessary and discuss this with you at your appointment. Dilating your eyes allows our doctor to get a more in-depth view of the inside of your eyes.

Contacts vs. Glasses

The rest of your eye exam will be different based on the fact if you are choosing glasses, contacts or both. No matter, we are happy to talk out what best suits your prescription and lifestyle.  There are a range of contact brands and offerings to fit you! We have daily disposables as well as monthly or bi-weekly. Understanding how these are different can help you make a better decision.

If you are grabbing a new pair of glasses, we have stylish and trendy frames available right in our offices. We are proud to serve our patients with in-house lens edging, so that you have shorter wait times and you can reuse your old frames if you still love them! Beyond your stylish frames, you need strong and sturdy lenses. We have specialized offerings and transition lenses as well. We can put together prescription sunglasses if you want too.
